Here are a few things that I have written over the years. Poems are very personal things and although I don't consider myself a "Poet" I do enjoy writing my thoughts down, and I also love to read other people's work.
I
am
as
a
ship
lost
at
sea
drifting
on
life's
ocean
aimlessly
draw me a picture
sing me a song
read a poem to me
come and enter
into my world
share my dreams with me
APRIL
the birth of
ARIES
APRIL
is sunshine and showers
APRIL
is sweet smelling flowers
Awakening
from Winter's long reign;
Pushing up through the soil
to gain
their freedom
from earth's selfish hold.
APRIL
impatient and bold.
Inspiration
pen in hand
paper on knee
sitting
waiting
patiently
for inspiration
to come to me
and words of wisdom
to flow from me
wonder why
when there's no time to stop
when there's dishes to wash
and floors to mop
when there's piles of work
waiting for me
that's when inspiration
always comes to me.
My life seems like a merry-go-round
At times I feel light as air,
My feet hardly ever touch the ground,
I don't have a worry or care.
Then back down to earth I always fall,
Reality laughs at my dreams.
I can't figure out why I'm here at all,
Or what life - and living - means.
Maybe I'll get lucky and find one day
An answer to all this confusion.
Or is it supposed to be this way,
And is life just one big illusion?
Things I Like
The happy sound
of children singing.
Sunday morning
church bells ringing.
The red glow of sunset
setting fire to the sky
A love story
that makes me cry.
A visit from Mother
her warm embrace,
Seeing a smile
light up her face.
A cosy fire,
A cup of tea,
Two hearts beating
in harmony.
Two loving arms
to hold me tight,
And keep me safe
All through the night
Did You Ever?
Did you ever arise
at break of dawn
And listen to
the first bird's song?
Did you ever lie
beneath skies of blue
Tasting sweet clover
moistened with dew?
Did you ever kick off
your shoes and run
Through meadows and creeks
just for fun?
Did you ever build
castles of sand
Or plant a seed
with a loving hand?
Did you ever look up
to the heavens at night
And wish on a star
as it shot out of sight?
Did you ever discover
that dreams can come true
If you keep on believing
and wanting them to?
Variations on Life Tunes
I awake to God's feathered
Orchestra
which cranks up each morning at
Sunrise
With notes of every intonation
Bursting forth
from swelled breasts;
Invisible Music Makers,
in harmony with
Mother Nature,
declaring their
Independence
a sleeping
Audience
I listen spellbound
to their Serenade.
letting my senses
Soar
over the tree tops
towards the
Pink Horizon,
I lose them in the
Newness of the day
as they absorb the
Warmth
from the rising Sun.
Suddenly,
an engine cranks up,
Shrill blasts burst forth from
Plastic Alarm Clocks,
voices loud in
Disagreements
over morning rituals
Drown out my
Ochestra as an
Indifferent Audience
awakens to the drone of
Man-made Machines.
Reluctantly
my senses return
the newness fades
the dream ends.
Another day emerges.
Neil Baby
(at Nine)
Tattered jeans
Unbuttoned shirt
Toeless sneakers
Caked in dirt.
Wet and soggy
Beaming with pleasure
He gave to me
All his treasures.
Only a mother
Could act so glad
To receive a bucket
Of smelly crawdads.
Nelson Edward
(at Nineteen)
"Fly-Guy":
In his Blues
Heel taps clicking,
Shiny shoes.
Head in clouds
Pleased as punch
Invited to Grans
For Sunday lunch.
She gets flowers
And Black Magic chocs
What a difference
Ten years makes!
